OPD5 officials visited local high schools last week to present nearly $4,000 raised through the
district’s “Round Up For Education” Program.
Now in its 12th year, Round Up For Education allows OPD5 customers to voluntarily round up
the balance on their power bills to the nearest dollar each month. When they enroll in the
program, customers also specify which high school they want their donations to benefit. The
difference then becomes a small-change donation for the specified school. All of the funds
gathered through the program are then presented to the schools at the end of each year.
Though individual donations amount to only pennies, the accumulation can really add up with
healthy community involvement in the program.
This year, a Round-Up check in the amount of $2,267.34 was presented to Virgin Valley High
School Assistant Principal Kim Bunker.

Meanwhile, at Moapa Valley High School, this year’s check totaled $1,698.18. It was presented
to MVHS Assistant Principals Mitchell Ozaki and Duane McMinn.

The funds raised each year are used at the discretion of the local schools in what administrators
feel best helps their student body. It does not become a restricted part of the CCSD budget
allotment to the school.
Signing up to participate in the Round Up for Education program is easy. OPD5 customers can
simply call the district office at 702-397-2512 in Overton, or 702-346-5710 in Mesquite. Or they
can stop by their local OPD5 office in person to sign up.
