OPD5 encounters problems with Spam filters

Recommends OPD5 customers to add office numbers to phone contacts

OPD5 has run up against a tough obstacle in its ability to communicate important messages to customers in a timely manner. District staff have recently found that many new spam-blocking programs out there have begun tagging calls from the local OPD5 offices as spam calls. This has prevented crucial messaging from getting to customers.

“We don’t know exactly why this is happening, and we are still working to resolve it,” said OPD5 Customer Service Supervisor Kristi Eames. “But it is causing people to either ignore, or to not ever receive, important calls from us. That can be a real problem, because sometimes those calls are notifications of planned outages or other time-sensitive situations that can really affect people. It makes it difficult for us to get the word out and we would hate for people to not get these messages.”

District staff is seeking a permanent solution to this problem. But in the meantime, Eames is urging customers to add the OPD5 office phone numbers to the contacts of their phones. That way when those calls go out, it will be clear to the customer where they are coming from.

“We use a lot of different ways to get a hold of our customers when there is a situation, but the phone may be the most important one,” Eames said. “So adding our office numbers as a contact in your cell phone may be the simplest and most immediate way to make sure we can continue to get through to you if we need to.”

The OPD5 Mesquite office phone number is 702-346-5710. The Overton office number is 702-397-2512. It is recommended that customers enter both numbers into the OPD5 contact listing on their phones.
