OPD5 board member earns NRECA Director Gold

OPD5 board member Dale Rust, of Mesquite, has earned the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Director Gold Credential, the highest level of certification offered through the NRECA director education program. The recognition was presented to Rust by Board Chair Jack Nelson during a board meeting held Wednesday, May 20, in Overton.
The Director Gold Credential recognizes utility trustees who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to advanced education, leadership development, and excellence in electric utility governance. The credential is awarded to board members who continue their professional training after completing both the Credentialed Cooperative Director and Board Leadership Certificate programs.
To earn the Director Gold Credential, trustees must complete extensive continuing education focused on emerging utility issues, strategic leadership, governance practices, financial oversight, cybersecurity awareness, energy policy, and long-term infrastructure planning. Participants are also required to maintain continuing education credits to ensure they remain informed about the rapidly changing utility industry.
“We are fortunate at OPD5 to have trustees that go all in with their dedication to serving our customers,” said OPD5 CEO/General Manager MeLisa Garcia. “Dale has certainly shown that kind of commitment. The knowledge and leadership skills gained through the NRECA Director Education Program strengthen our board and help ensure they remain focused on reliability, financial responsibility, and long-term planning for our communities.”
Rust has served on the OPD5 Board of Trustees since January of 2023 with a strong focus on protecting reliable electric service, supporting infrastructure improvements, and representing the interests of district residents and businesses.
NRECA is the national service organization representing the nation’s electric cooperatives and public power districts, providing education, training, and advocacy for utility leaders across the United States.
