Kyle Leavitt promoted to OPD5 Line Operations Manager

A new Line Operations Manager has been appointed at OPD5. Moapa Valley resident Kyle
Leavitt was promoted to the position earlier this month after his predecessor Corey Dalley
retired.
Leavitt has been working at the district for more than 20 years. He was first hired as a
temporary employee in the role of mechanics assistant in August of 2002. At that time, he had
just graduated from Moapa Valley High School and had a little experience working with his dad
who was a mechanic. He spent several months in the role, performing routine maintenance on
the fleet of OPD5 vehicles.
Then, in January of 2004, a full-time groundsman position was open in the district. Leavitt was
hired for the spot.
Since that time, Leavitt has worked his way up through the district. He completed his
Apprenticeship in 2010 and was promoted to journeyman lineman. He moved up to Moapa
Valley Area Foreman in 2020 where he has served until earlier this month.
“When I started here fresh out of high school, I had no thought that I would become a foreman,
and certainly not get to where I am today,” Leavitt said. “The district has provided me with a lot
of opportunity and I appreciate that.
As Line Operations Manager, Leavitt supervises the line crews in both Moapa Valley and Virgin
Valley. He also monitors safety at the district, conducting and leading regular safety training for
staff members.
Leavitt said that he has some ambitious goals that he is looking to implement in the new role.
He feels one of the more important responsibilities he has is to create new leaders for the
future of the district.
“I view the biggest task in my future is to stay focused on developing the next group of leaders,”
Leavitt said. “If we haven’t created leaders who are ready to step up behind us, we have missed
a crucial element for OPD5’s long-term success and sustainability.”
